Sunday social ride – London Cycle Paths

12th November 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

£8.60

This ride will start by catching the 10:26 train to London Kings Cross from Hatfield.    Please arrive at the station in good time to purchase tickets.  You will only need a return to London Terminals, not a Travelcard.   This costs £8.60.  You can of course join the ride from any other station.   Just aim to be at Kings Cross by 10:50 for an 11:00 departure.

We will then explore London cycling infrastructure, pausing where there is something worth seeing.  This will include:

  • Contraflow cycling on one way streets in Camden
  • Minimalist routes in Westminster.
  • The spectacular Embankment cycle route and then down Blackfriars Bridge Road, where we will stop for lunch at Costa.
  • The older cycling superhighway on Southwark Bridge Road for comparison.

The planned route is this:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26164167

The aim is to introduce WelHatCyclists to what has been happening in London in the past few years and to also show how undeveloped some other locations are.  The photo shows the Bloomsbury cycle route.

And this is the route on Blackfriars Bridge.

Given the ride will include ordinary roads in London, you need to be happy with riding in traffic on some sections.   The ride will be approximately 14 miles to and from Kings Cross.

We will plan in a suitable lunch stop and will pause at various points along the way so we can see some specifics of the routes we are riding on.
